West dismantles legal norms it once vigorously defended — Medvedev

"Once the path of political diktat was chosen, the West's much-praised legal architecture immediately began to crumble," the Russian politician said

ST. PETERSBURG, June 24 /TASS/. By choosing the path of political diktat, the West has trampled on and dismantled the very principles of international law it once so vigorously defended, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

"Once the path of political diktat was chosen, the West's much-praised legal architecture immediately began to crumble," he said. "Europeans have once again undermined the basic foundations of international law with their own hands, despite being among its most ardent defenders," Medvedev added.

"This includes the sacred nature of property rights and their absolute protection - principles that were instantly forgotten," he added.
