More than 4,000 Ukrainian POWs are kept in Donetsk republic — militia spokesman

Eduard Basurin stressed that the Ukrainian POWs were kept in decent conditions in accordance with international rules

DONETSK, May 26. /TASS/. More than 4,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war are kept on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the DPR people’s militia’s spokesman Eduard Basurin told TASS on Thursday.

"More than four thousand. I cannot say exactly how many," he said in reply to a corresponding question.

He stressed that the Ukrainian POWs were kept in decent conditions in accordance with international rules.

"I’ll tell you honestly, their conditions are comfortable enough. We have vast experience in this respect. During our war we arranged an ‘excursion’ for foreign journalists, who were able to see for themselves that the POWs’ conditions were very comfortable and matched the required standards," he said.

Earlier, the Lugansk People’s Republic’s ambassador to Russia, Rodion Miroshnik, said that the number of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Lugansk and Donetsk people’s republic was at about 8,000 and kept growing by several hundred day.
