MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. The West’s actions in respect of Russia, including blocking of official Russian accounts by US internet platforms, indicate a profound crisis in its ideology, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sunday.
"In the United States, information about blocking Russian official or media accounts comes at a level of some corporate decisions. One can say that these are containment attempts. But I would put it in a more global way. It is a crisis, a profound crisis of the Western mode of thinking, the Western pseudo-democracy and pseudo-liberalism," she said in an interview with the Voskresny Vecher (Sunday Evening) with Vladimir Solovyov program on the Rossiya-1 television channel.
She recalled that the January 6 riots in Washington had been interpreted as an attack on democracy whereas the January 23 protests in Russia had been supported by "inspiring calls" from the United States. "Now, after, so to say, rains in the recent years and months, the paint came off and we see what is actually happening there. It is a crisis of their ideology but this crisis is dangerous because it threatens sovereignty of many nations," Zakharova noted.
She also stressed that such calls were coming amid the coronavirus pandemic when all countries were trying to minimize its impacts. "None has any pity for anyone," she added.
