Fire at 18th-century mansion in downtown St. Petersburg contained

ST. PETERSBURG, October 2. /TASS/. A fire in an 18th-century mansion built in downtown St. Petersburg has been contained, the city’s Emergencies Ministry department said.

"The fire was contained at 12:40 a.m. [Moscow time, 9:40 p.m. GMT Thursday]," the department said in a statement. "The category of the fire was downgraded to two [out of possible five]."

The mansion was designed by architect Ferdinand Miller and is also known as the Bremmer House. Constructed in 1872 in the eclectic style according to a design by Ferdinand Miller, an academician of architecture, the Bremmer House has been a landmark of St. Petersburg’s social and cultural life for decades. Its ongoing renovation was supposed to be finished by the end of 2027.
