Hainan's city of Sanya hosts Brussels International Wine Contest for first time

After being evaluated by international experts, 15 alcoholic beverages were awarded Grand Gold Medals

HAIKOU /China/, April 25. /TASS/. The city of Sanya on the southern coast of Hainan Island held its first prestigious international wine competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. This was reported by the Sanya Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, following the assessment of the products by international experts, 15 alcoholic beverages were awarded the Grand Gold Medals, 83 were awarded the Gold Medal, and 62 were awarded the Silver Medal. The awarding ceremony took place during the 2023 Boating Sanya & Sanya International Wine and Spirits Fair.

The members of the the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles headed by its Chairman Baudouin Havaux expressed their interest in extending cooperation with Sanya. They also praised the city's atmosphere, industry innovation, the advantages of the local environment for cultural events and the development of the tourism industry.

"Several hundred leading enterprises and experts from China as well as other countries were invited to the award ceremony, which will help accelerate the process of strengthening the degree of openness [of the city's economy], promote the expansion of the scope of cooperation between the PRC and other countries," said Ye Jialin, head of the Sanya Tourism Promotion Bureau.

According to the official, Sanya will host even more leading international companies. He said the city is inviting investors to take advantage of the opportunities that are emerging as Hainan's free trade port continues to develop.

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an international wine competition which has been held annually since 1994. Its main purpose is to provide the buyer with a guarantee of the quality of a particular wine product.
