NATO exercises in EU practice confrontation with Russia — Security Council’s secretary

MAGAS, March 7. /TASS/. The ongoing exercises of NATO forces in Europe are practicing a scenario of armed confrontation with Russia, which increases tensions and destabilizes the situation in the world, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev has said.

"The destructive role of the United States in modern history is obvious. No other country has unleashed so many wars and military conflicts and provoked so many devastating economic crises," Patrushev said at a meeting in Ingushetia's capital Magas on national security issues in the North Caucasus Federal District.

"The aggressive NATO bloc, which has come close to Russia's western borders, is an important tool of Washington's influence on other countries. Over the 75 years of its existence as an ostensible guarantor of peace and democracy, NATO has unleashed more than a hundred wars and military conflicts around the world and is getting ready for more," Patrushev added.

He pointed out that "the exercises of NATO's armed forces in Europe codenamed Steadfast Defender 2024, during which the scenario of an armed confrontation with Russia is being worked out, undoubtedly increase tension and destabilize the situation in the world."

"There are plans for a further expansion of NATO's presence in the Asia-Pacific Region and in the Arctic," Patrushev recalled. "In 2024, NATO’s military expenditures continue to grow, which once again emphasizes the increasingly aggressive nature of this alliance."
