BELGRADE, October 4. /TASS/. Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Central Election Commission has announced preliminary results of Sunday’s general elections after counting 90% of votes.
Thus, Denis Becirovic of Bosnia-Hezegovina’s Social Democratic Party is leading in the election of the Bosniak (Slavs professing Islam) member of the BiH Presidency (Presidium) with 38.12%. His rival, Bakir Izetbegovic, the leader of the Party of Democratic Action, is garnering 33.98% of votes.
Darjana Filipovic of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina is number one in the race for the Croatian member of the Presidency with 46.56%. Her rival, Slaven Kovacevic, is scoring 30.54%.
Zeljka Cvijanovic of the ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats in Republika Srpska is the leader in the election of the Republika Srpska’s member of the Presidency with 55.34%. Her rival, Marinko Bozovic of the opposition, is winning 26.55%.
Republika Srpska’s Prime Minister Savo Minic is winning the elections of the entity’s president with 52.13% of votes. The opposition candidate, Branko Blanusa, currently has 41.95%.
The parties that are receiving the highest number of votes in the elections to the House of Representatives (the lower house of the BiH parliament) are the Party of Democratic Action (19.89%), the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (16.44%), the Social Democratic Party of BiH (9.39%), the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH (8%), and the Safe Srpska movement led by Banja Luka’s mayor, Drasko Stanivukovic (5.99%).
The Alliance of Independent Social Democrats is leading in all constituencies in the elections to the National Assembly (parliament) of Republika Srpska with more than 35%. Its leader Milorad Dodik said earlier that his party and its coalition partners would receive "two thirds of seats."
Under the constitution envisaged by the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Dayton Agreement) of 1995, Bosnia and Herzegovina is comprised of two entities, namely the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (around 51% of the territory) and the Republic of Srpska (around 49%), as well as the Brcko District. The three key ethno-religious groups, i.e. Bosniaks (Slavs professing Islam), Serbs (Orthodox Christians), and Croats (Catholics), are proportionally represented in the state governance system.
