WASHINGTON, February 13. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said he is confident that Russian President Vladimir Putin pursues a peaceful settlement to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
"I think I can say with great confidence, he wants to see it ended also, so that’s good - and we’re going to work toward getting it ended and as fast as possible," Trump said speaking to journalists in the White House.
The presidents of Russia and the United States held a telephone conversation on February 12.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced earlier that Putin's telephone call with Trump on Wednesday lasted almost for an hour and a half and they discussed among other things the conflict in Ukraine, the ongoing developments in the Middle East, as well as the issue of the swap of convicted citizens of the two countries.
The leaders of Russia and the United States agreed to continue contacts and hold a personal meeting in the future, Peskov added.
According to the Kremlin website, Putin and Trump last met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, in late June 2019.
