HONG KONG, February 9. /TASS/. Taiwan's armed forces have detected 14 aircraft and six ships of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) heading towards the island, Taiwan's Defense Ministry reported on its page on the X social network. Nine of the aircraft crossed the median line over the Taiwan Strait, which separates the island from mainland China.

"14 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 9 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly," the statement says.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after their defeat in the Chinese Civil War. Beijing considers Taiwan a province of the People’s Republic of China.
