Italian fighters scrambled over Baltic Sea to intercept Russian aircraft

No incidents were reported

ROME, March 29. /TASS/. The Italian Air Force’s Eurofighter jets deployed at Poland’s Malbork air base have been scrambled twice in the past 24 hours after spotting Russian aircraft over international waters in the Baltic Sea, the ANSA news agency said.

The NATO Combined Air Operations Centre at Uedem (Germany) reported that an unidentified aircraft was detected on Thursday and then on Friday. After receiving the signal, fighter jets from Italy’s Air Task Force 4th Wing were scrambled. ANSA said that the fighter jets returned to base after identifying the planes. No incidents were reported.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that all flights by Russia’s combat aircraft take place in strict accordance with the international rules on the use of airspace.
