Macron aims to expedite negotiations between Moscow, Kiev

Emmanuel Macron emphasized that France "is not a party to the conflict, but will continue to support Ukraine"

PARIS, October 21. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron plans to continue dialogue with both Moscow and Kiev to bring the start of negotiations between the two closer, Macron said at a news conference after the EU summit in Brussels on Friday.

"We cannot decide for Ukraine when it should start negotiations with Russia, but we must continue dialogue with each side," Macron said. "It should be done, as some day they will have to sit down at the negotiating table."

The French President said that he would like this to happen "as soon as possible."

Macron emphasized that France "is not a party to the conflict, but will continue to support Ukraine."

This year, Macron has regularly talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone, and the total duration of their conversations has exceeded 100 hours, according to the French president’s estimates. Last month, the two leaders discussed the IAEA mission’s visit to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in a lengthy conversation.
