KALININGRAD, June 21. /TASS/. Law enforcement bodies have foiled the activities of Western-funded NGOs in Russia’s northwest, some of which sought to turn the Kaliningrad Region into a German autonomy, Russia’s security chief said on Tuesday.
"Destructive activities by foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Russian non-profit organizations controlled by them and financed by the US, Britain, Sweden and Belgium have been thwarted," Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said, addressing a meeting in Kaliningrad.
The law enforcement agencies have "neutralized" German-controlled NGOs’ attempts to establish a so-called German autonomy in Kaliningrad. Polish intelligence services were gathering information with the goal of orchestrating mass unrest, Patrushev revealed.
Last year alone, over 1,500 internet resources, spreading extremist content, were exposed, Patrushev added.
