MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Russian actor Yura Borisov, up for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor this year, will star in Serbian film director Emir Kusturica’s biopic titled "How I Did Not Make ‘Crime and Punishment’." Borisov will play Kusturica himself, the film director told TASS.
"Yes, he and I have struck a deal. He will portray me," Kusturica said.
The film director announced plans to shoot "How I Did Not Make 'Crime and Punishment'" back in 2011 at a press conference in Moscow, which was dedicated to Serbian Film Week. Back then, Kusturica told reporters that he had wanted to make a film based on the famous novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky but did not do so because he didn’t think he could do the book justice, believing that he could not translate the Russian writer’s language and way of thinking to today’s reality. Kusturica revealed that the movie’s alternative title was My Dear Fyodor.
Today, Kusturica confirmed to TASS that he had decided to go with the first version of the title. "Yes, the film will be titled ‘How I failed to Make a Crime and Punishment Movie’," he concluded.
