MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. The number of foreigners studying in Russian universities rose to 8.4% compared with 2021 and amounted to over 351,000 people, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education told TASS on Tuesday.
"In 2022 the number of foreign students in Russia has increased by 8.4% compared with 2021 and has amounted to 351,448. The overall number of foreign students receiving higher education in Russia has risen to more than 36,000 over the past three years. That is, in 2021 there were 324,000 foreign students in Russia and in 2020 there were 315,000 foreigners," the press service said.
The ministry pointed out that the data for 2022 did not include foreigners paying fees for their studies, as enrollment for this category of citizens just recently ended, and the final data on the admission campaign will be announced later.
The ministry also revealed that in 2021 Russia ranked fifth in the world in terms of overall number of foreign students. As of mid-November of this year, State Secretary and Science and Higher Education Deputy Minister Peter Kucherenko reported that Russia ranks seventh among all countries in the number of foreign students.
