Russia’s top prosecutor requests extradition of tycoon wanted for murder from Montenegro

In Russia, Ismailov was charged in absentia with murder, illegal arms trafficking and kidnapping singer Avraam Russo

MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has sent a request to Montenegro for the extradition of tycoon Telman Ismailov charged with murder in Russia, its press service told TASS.

"A request to extradite T. Ismailov to the Russian Federation for criminal prosecution was sent to the Ministry of Justice and Human and Minority Rights of Montenegro through diplomatic channels," the Office of the General Prosecutor said. The request was prepared as early as October 7, it added.

On October 1, Russian businessman Telman Ismailov, the former director of Moscow’s Cherkizovsky market, was detained in Podgorica on an arrest warrant issued by Russia. He was arrested by court in Podgorica and will remain in custody until a decision is made by the Montenegrin authorities on his extradition.
