Russia can fulfill its international obligations in destroying chemical weapons in 2018, two years ahead of deadline

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Russia can fulfill its international obligations to destroy chemical weapons two years ahead of the 2020 deadline, a Russian disarmament official said.

Work is ahead of schedule as two processing facilities have finished their work and are being cleaned while four more are to close this year, said chairman of the state commission for chemical disarmament and Volga region presidential envoy Mikhail Babich.

One plant will work till 2016 to dismantle complex-construction chemical weapons and work there is t be competed in 2018, Babich said.

"If circumstances change, we have two years in reserve. We believe we will surely fulfill our international obligations," he added.
