Russia does not need ceasefire in Ukraine, but long-term peace with guarantees — Putin

The head of state noted that at the moment a long period of relative ceasefire would give the enemy an opportunity to engage in training and retraining of reinforcements

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russia needs long-term and durable peace in Ukraine, not a ceasefire, President Vladimir Putin said at the combined Direct Line Q&A and year-end press conference.

"We do not need a ceasefire, we need peace: long-term, durable, with guarantees for Russia and its citizens. How to provide these guarantees is a difficult question. But in general, we can look for ways to provide them," he pointed out.

The head of state noted that at the moment a long period of relative ceasefire would give the enemy an opportunity to engage in training and retraining of reinforcements. Such a step would allow to replenish some battalions of the Ukrainian army, where there is 35-40% of manpower.
