MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. Russia will complete its segment of the International monitoring system of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) by the end of 2023, the Defense Ministry said.
The coordinating committee of the Russian government and the preparatory commission of the organization was held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to discuss the operation of the Russian segment.
"Head of the Russian delegation Colonel Alexey Astakhov said the creation of the Russian segment of the international monitoring system would be completed this year. The completion of the segment is an indisputable confirmation of the Russian adherence to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and strengthening of strategic stability in the world," it said.
Meeting participants visited the seismic monitoring station in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which is the 32nd and final station of the Russian monitoring segment.
"With assistance of the CTBTO Provisional Technical Secretariat the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk station, which is currently testing the equipment, will be certified. After tests are completed and the necessary certificates obtained, the Russian station will become an element of the biggest in the world segment of the International monitoring system created on the Russian territory," the ministry said.
