MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. The Russian government has approved an agreement on opening a consulate general in the Armenian town of Kapan, according to a decree signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry’s proposal is hereby approved <…>, which calls for exchanging notes and making an agreement between the Russian government and the Armenian government on establishing a Russian consulate general in the town of Kapan," the document reads.

Russia currently has one consulate general in Armenia, located in the city of Gyumri.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has been assigned to carry out the exchange of notes. If necessary, "non-essential" amendments can be made to the draft document.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in late October that Moscow "expressed a wish to open a consulate in Kapan," to which Yerevan had agreed.

Kapan is situated in Armenia’s Syunik Region bordering Azerbaijan.
