The Federal Security Service of Russia initiated a criminal case over charges of attempted murder of a public figure

MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. Former Verkhovna Rada Deputy Oleg Tsaryov was seriously injured in Yalta on Thursday and currently receives medical treatment in an intensive care unit.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia initiated a criminal case over charges of attempted murder of a public figure; a similar case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee under order of Committee head Alexander Bastrykin.

Circumstances of the incident

- The assassination attempt was carried out approximately at midnight in a sanatorium, where Tsaryov lived.

- According to his Telegram channel, he was shot twice. Chairman of the "We are Together with Russia" movement Vladimir Rogov also confirmed the shooting reports.

The victim’s condition

- Tsaryov’s condition is "very severe," he is currently in an intensive care unit, Rogov says.

- According to Russian State Duma Deputy Yana Lantratova, Tsaryov underwent surgery.

Investigation

- According to Tsaryov’s Telegram channel, there is currently no information about the perpetrator.

- The FSB has initiated a criminal case over Russian Criminal Code Article 277 (attempted murder of state or public figure). In particular, the assassination of the first DPR Head Alexadner Zakharchenko was classified under this article.

- Bastrykin ordered the head of the Investigative Committee for Crimea and Sevastopol to also initiate a criminal case over the incident and "to take measures to determine all circumstances of the incident and people involved.".
