Russia doubts UN’s ability to act as mediator between Russia, Ukraine — Russian diplomat

According to the Russian diplomat, the more Western delegations to the UN Security Council meeting "in spite of obvious facts, continue to tell tales about Russia’s non-implementation of the Minsk agreements, the more people will see" the real state of things

UNITED NATIONS, February 17. /TASS/. Russia doubts the United Nations’ ability to act as a mediator in the Ukrainian settlement bearing in mind its biased position against Russia, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Friday.

"Many are saying today that the United Nations is to act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine. Do you think that, bearing in mind what I have just said, we can trust such mediation? Are there any guarantees that now the Secretariat will act differently?" he said at a Russian-initiated meeting of the UN Security Council on the anniversary of the Minsk agreements.

According to the Russian diplomat, the more Western delegations to the UN Security Council meeting "in spite of obvious facts, continue to tell tales about Russia’s non-implementation of the Minsk agreements, the more people will see" the real state of things. "We had no other option than to defend our country, defend it from you, to defend our identity and our future," he stressed.
