Lavrov to hold talks with ICRC president on Jan 20 — Russian Foreign Ministry

It is reported that Moscow expects to discuss cooperation related to humanitarian issues of the Ukraine crisis

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold a meeting on January 20 with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, who is expected to visit Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Moscow expects to discuss cooperation related to humanitarian issues of the Ukraine crisis.

"A meeting between Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger is scheduled for January 20," the ministry reported. "Spoljaric, who took office as the ICRC president on October 1, 2022, will make her first visit to our country in her new status. We look forward to a constructive discussion on interaction with the Committee, primarily in the context of humanitarian aspects of the Ukraine crisis."

The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized its willingness to further cooperate with the ICRC.

Earlier, the ICRC’s Moscow press office announced that Spoljaric Egger would travel to Moscow on a two-day visit in order to discuss pressing humanitarian issues with Russian officials and the Russian Red Cross Society.

The ICRC pointed out that last month Spoljaric Egger visited Ukraine, "where she met with government officials, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, associations of families of prisoners of war and interned civilians, and communities that are suffering from the international armed conflict.".
