Russia's position on Taiwan as integral part of China remains unchanged, says diplomat

According to Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Russia discusses the topic of Taiwan with Chinese colleagues as necessary at various levels

MOSCOW, June 3. /TASS/. Russia considers Taiwan an integral part of China, and this position of Moscow hasn't changed, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.

"Russia's principled position on the Taiwan issue is unchanged. We proceed from the fact that there is only one China, the Chinese government is the only legitimate government representing all of China, and Taiwan is an integral part of China," she said.

"The Russian side opposes the independence of the island," Zakharova stressed, adding that "Russia discusses the topic of Taiwan with Chinese colleagues as necessary at various levels."

"We interact openly with our Chinese partners on all issues. Topics of mutual interest or importance to either side are discussed in a trusting and mutually respectful manner," the diplomat stressed.

When commenting on US actions to encourage separatism in Taiwan, Zakharova said that "US provocations around the world are absolutely not a new topic, unfortunately, this is their political credo".
