Thousands being exposed to violence in US-controlled camps in Syria — Russian envoy

Prostitution, theft, the sexual exploitation of underage children and human trafficking are thriving there, and unmatched marriages are common, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gennady Kuzmin said

UNITED NATIONS, April 13. /TASS/. Thousands of people are being exposed to violence in US-controlled camps in Syria, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gennady Kuzmin said at a UN Security Council meeting on preventing sexual violence in conflict.

He expressed concern about information provided in the UN secretary general’s report, which pointed to a rise in violence against women and girls in conflict zones on the African continent, in Colombia and Syria.

"Thousands of people kept in Syria’s Al-Hol and Al-Rukban camps, controlled by the US occupation authorities, are being exposed to violence, exploitation and mistreatment," Kuzmin pointed out. "Marginalized, they are in a desperate situation. Prostitution, theft, the sexual exploitation of underage children and human trafficking are thriving there, and unmatched marriages are common," he added.
