ST. PETERSBURG, September 25. /TASS/. The Bank of Russia is ready to provide extra resources for the capital of the Russian National Reinsurance Company (RNRC) if needed, First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Vladimir Chistyukhin told reporters at the 23rd International Banking Forum.
"We face the situation when the RNRC has suffered significant losses this year, taking into account the high intensity of attacks on Russian facilities, vessels, oil and gas infrastructure, and warehouses. To ensure the RNRC meets regulatory capital requirements, a recapitalization was required. As of today, the announced amounts are sufficient to ensure the quality continuity of RNRC’s operations. However, we will monitor future developments. If additional capital resources are needed, the Central Bank will certainly provide them," Chistyukhin said.
Risks covered by the RNRC are exceptionally high, the official noted. "However, in absence of an alternative the RNRC does not leave the market, does not close any insurance lines. Yes, it may adjust rules or raise tariffs in some areas, but fundamentally it continues to take all insurance and reinsurance risks," he added.
Governor of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina said earlier that the regulator decided to inject 165 billion rubles ($2 bln) into the RNRC. Taking all the procedural steps into account, the RNRC's capital is set to be increased in September, she noted.
