China extends visa-free transit for Russia, other countries to ten days

Russians earlier had a right to visa-free transit for 72 or 144 hours, depending on the entry point in China

BEIJING, December 17. /TASS/. Chinese authorities extended the period of visa-free transit for citizens of Russia and fifty-three other countries to 240 hours (10 days), the China’s National Immigration Administration said.

The specified measure will be in effect from December 17. Russians earlier had a right to visa-free transit for 72 or 144 hours, depending on the entry point in China.

The list comprises 40 European countries, six Asian countries, six North and Latin American nations, Australia and New Zealand, whose nationals have such right.

Furthermore, the list of border crossing points with the right of visa-free transit was expanded to 60 points of arrival. Passengers from Russia can enter China via twenty-four political subdivisions at the level of province, city or district.

China will continue the policy of simplifying, optimizing and improving migration control, the administration said.

For visa-free transit, a foreigner needs to have a document entitling to an international trip and compliant with rights of entering a third country, with the term of at least three months. Tickets should also be purchased or another evidence of traveling via China should be furnished.
