MOSCOW, December 24. /TASS/. Gazprom set a new historical record for daily gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline on December 23, the company said in a statement.
"On December 23, China’s application for the supply of Russian gas through the Power of Siberia gas pipeline once again exceeded the daily contractual obligations. Gazprom delivered all the requested volumes and set a new historical record for daily gas supplies to China," the statement said.
Supplies are made under a bilateral long-term gas purchase and sale agreement between Gazprom and CNPC, the company added.
Gazprom set the previous historical record for daily gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia on December 16.
At the end of 2022, Russia exported 15.5 bcm of gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. Russian gas supplies to China via the pipeline are expected to exceed the planned level of 22 bcm in 2023. The pipeline is expected to reach its design capacity of 38 bcm in 2025. Moreover, in the coming years, the total volume of Gazprom's exports to China will reach 48 bcm of gas per year (due to the implementation of a project for gas supplies to China along the Far Eastern route), and taking into account the transit gas pipeline through Mongolia - around 100 bcm per year, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said earlier.
At the same time, Miller later said that China is considering the possibility of increasing Russian gas supplies through the Power of Siberia beyond the design capacity of 38 bcm, the agreement can be reached in the near future.
