Hainan plans to create transportation network linking all parts of island by 2025

This transportation system will make it possible to reach any part of the island in no more than three hours

HAIKOU /China/, May 11. /TASS/. Authorities in the southern Chinese province of Hainan plan to create a transport system by 2025 which will allow to reach any part of the island in no more than three hours. This was reported by the Hainan International Communication Network (HICN), with reference to the statement of Deputy Director of the Hainan Province Department of Transport Li Zhiqiang.

The plan also calls for transport accessibility within a one-hour drive between three economic zones: the greater Haikou metropolitan area, the greater Sanya metropolitan area, and the Danzhou-Yangpu area. One of the objectives is to expand and strengthen the basic infrastructure of the Haikou suburbs, accelerating the development of transportation hubs for ports and airports. The authorities also intend to optimize and improve the transport infrastructure in the Sanya suburbs and complete the construction of the city's international cruise port. Another task will be to upgrade transportation facilities in the Danzhou-Yangpu region, increasing the capacity of Yangpu Port and turning it into an international maritime hub.

The plan also calls for the construction of several intra-city transportation networks. By 2025 Hainan will also have a network of high-speed highways 1.5 thousand km long. The authorities also intend to continue developing so-called scenic highways, such as the coastal tourist road, the roads of the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, and the Xinying Bay Road.

Another major focus will be the development of an integrated transportation system which will improve and optimize passenger transportation, reduce costs, and increase the efficiency of the entire logistics industry.
