MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted a terrorist attack at a humanitarian aid collection center in the Samara Region plotted by a Russian national, a member of the Russian Volunteer Corps terrorist organization.
The perpetrator was killed while being detained due to the detonation of an explosive device, the FSB Public Relations Center told TASS.
"The Federal Security Service has prevented a terror attack in the Samara Region, plotted by a Russian citizen born in 1994, a supporter of the Russian Volunteer Corps terrorist organization, operating under the auspices of Ukrainian intelligence," the press service said.
The man was following the orders of his handler. "He retrieved a home-made explosive device from a cache set up in advance in order to set it off in a humanitarian aid collection center of one of the volunteer organizations," the FSB said. When the perpetrator was being detained, the home-made explosive device self-detonated with the offender sustaining fatal wounds. "No security operatives or civilians were harmed," the FSB added.
According to the security service, in 2022-2024, the man was publicly discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. In September 2023, he was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence with the assistance of one of the Russian Volunteer Corps activists Alexander Kudashev born in 1982. He agreed to plan and carry out subversive acts on Russian soil. A search of the terrorist’s home revealed a laboratory to produce explosive substances, components for their production as well as another ready-to-use home-made explosive device. His phone contained correspondence with his handler and materials proving his involvement in terrorist activities, coordinated by Ukrainian intelligence.
The Investigative Department of the FSB Directorate for the Samara Region opened a criminal case on plotting a terror attack.
