Officials from Russia, Myanmar discuss measures to stop production of narcotics

MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev has visited Myanmar and met with the country's Interior Minister Yar Pyae, the Security Council said.

The officials "discussed measures to stop the production of narcotics," according to the council. It said "the sides expressed interest in exchanging operationally significant information on the leaders and active participants of drug trafficking groups, routes and methods of transportation of illicit substances."

Attention was also paid to cooperation between law enforcement agencies, special services and defense ministries, with a focus on ensuring law and order and the rule of law, counterterrorism measures, and analysis of channels and sources of financing for terrorist organizations.

Other issues that were discussed at the Russian-Myanmarese security consultations included countering the shadow economy, addressing food and energy security issues, ensuring internal stability in Myanmar and protecting the country's sovereignty.

There was also a thorough exchange of views on issues on the international agenda, the Security Council apparatus said.
