NEW YORK, October 28. /TASS/. US Vice President JD Vance has sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in an attempt to resume talks with the Islamic Republic on resolving the conflict, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing sources.
According to the sources, Vance took this step at the direction of US President Donald Trump. The vice president wants to determine whether Tehran and Washington have enough common ground to persuade Trump not to resume military action in the coming weeks, the newspaper reported. The letter Vance sent did not contain any specific peace proposals, the WSJ noted.
The newspaper recalled that although Vance has publicly supported military action against Iran, he has privately expressed doubts about the need to continue the military operation.
Trump previously suggested that the United States could launch new strikes against Iran after the midterm elections to Congress.
