Trump says asked Putin to release detained American Hubbard

The Moscow City Court sentenced Stephen Hubbard to six years and ten months in a general-regime penal colony in 2024

WASHINGTON, October 20. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has said he asked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to release 73-year-old American citizen Stephen Hubbard convicted in Russia for participating in combat operations on the Ukrainian side.

"I've been talking to President Putin about Mr. Hubbard. I've been talking to him at length. I've asked him to release him. Let's see what happens," Trump told journalists at the White House. "I'd love to get him back. It's time to have Mr. Hubbard back."

The Moscow City Court sentenced Hubbard to six years and ten months in a general-regime penal colony in 2024. He confessed to the charges. His time in custody since 2022 was counted towards his prison term.
