MOSCOW, March 18. /TASS/. Russia deeply regrets the resumption of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In the early morning hours, the Israeli Air Force launched a series of strikes on the largest settlements of the Palestinian enclave, including Khan Yunis and Rafah in the south, the city of Jabalia in the north, and the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central part of the Gaza Strip. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 300 people were killed and several hundred more injured.
"Moscow deeply regrets the resumption of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip. Experience shows that the issue of the release of hostages cannot be solved by violent methods. Russia strongly condemns all actions aimed at the death of peaceful civilians and the destruction of social infrastructure," the statement said.
The ministry added that Moscow "calls on the Israeli and Palestinian sides to return to the negotiation process aimed at developing a mutually acceptable compromise solution to the issue of hostages, which would make it possible to ensure a steady improvement in the situation in the Gaza Strip and begin a full-fledged reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave."
