BUDAPEST, December 6. /TASS/. The United States plays the decisive role in the conflict in Ukraine, but the situation may well change after President-elect Donald Trump takes office, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on the morning program of the Kossuth radio station.
"Without America, this war would never have happened. Without America, this conflict would have ended a long time ago. Ukraine would not have been able to resist without America's participation," he said.
Orban noted what he described as a "critical situation" around Ukraine, as the outgoing Joe Biden administration was determined to give the widest possible military support, while the incoming Trump administration was apparently in favor of a peace settlement. Current US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's risky remarks Ukraine should lower the draft age in Ukraine "show that America really needs a strategy change," Orban said.
He is certain that this will happen when Trump is inaugurated on January 20 and the reins of power in the United States will be placed in the Republicans’ hands.
"Then, I think things will settle down, but for now, everything will remain as it is. We are for peace, but the situation is complex and dangerous," Orban concluded.
