India values relations with Russia, top diplomat says

According to Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, "it is a relationship that served India well"

NEW DELHI, January 2. /TASS/. New Delhi highly values relations with Moscow, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.

"We have always maintained that the Russia relationship is a very important one, a very steady one," he pointed out in an interview with the Asian News International (ANI) media outlet. "We value this relationship. It is a relationship that served India well," the Indian foreign minister added.

He was also confident that even though Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not hold a meeting in 2023, they would be able to meet this year. "The tradition of annual meetings between our leaders is something that we value very greatly," Jaishankar noted.

The top Indian diplomat visited Russia on December 25-29. He was received by President Vladimir Putin and held talks with Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Several agreements were signed during the visit, which particularly concern the construction of energy units at India’s India's Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
