MINSK, November 16. /TASS/. Ukraine is blowing up bridges near the Belarusian border, Chairman of the Belarusian State Border Committee Anatoly Lappo said on Wednesday.
"Mines have been planted in Ukrainian areas bordering Belarus and almost all bridges leading to Gomel and Mozyr have been blown up. They are now starting to blow up bridges leading to Volyn. All roads are impassable," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
Lappo noted that "Ukraine’s efforts are focused on reinforcing mechanical roadblocks to protect the border." At the same time, "the entire population in the Ukrainian border areas is exposed to anti-Belarusian and anti-Russian propaganda."
The chief of the Belarusian State Border Committee said earlier that "almost all border bridges have been blown up, roads and railways were fully booby-trapped" on the Ukrainian side of the border.
In response, Belarus has strengthened its border guard units, stepped up the use of technical means of protection and engaged the mobilized groups of territorial border guard services.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko pointed out in early October that Ukraine had deployed as many as 15,000 troops to the border area.
