BRUSSELS, November 15. /TASS/. The EU will train 15,000 Ukrainian troops as part of its Military Assistance Mission not only in Poland, but also in some other countries of the bloc, Josep Borrell, the top EU diplomat, said at a news conference on Monday.
"Not all of them in Poland. It will be several different member states that will provide the basis, not only training, not only material, not only trainees, but concrete places in which this training will take place," he said.
He also named for the first time the amount of money that the EU and its member states provided to Ukraine in military assistance since the start of the year. He said the amount exceeded €8 billion.
The EU Foreign Affairs Council officially kicked off the training mission for the Ukrainian forces. The EU decision to establish the mission on October 17. According to the EU foreign service, the mission will provide individual, collective and special training for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the territorial defense. It also aims to coordinate efforts by certain EU member states that will train Ukrainian troops on a bilateral basis to conduct hostilities against Russia.
