South Ossetian incumbent president says runoff presidential elections ahead

Anatoly Bibilov also thanked South Ossetians for participating in the election

TSKHINVAL, April 11. /TASS/. South Ossetia’s incumbent President Anatoly Bibilov stated that a second round of presidential elections is ahead where he will face the leader of the Nykhas party Alan Gagloyev.

"The elections are being conducted in full accordance with the laws effective in the Republic of South Ossetia. There are no objections which could have impacted the outcome of the elections," he told journalists. "We already realize that there will be a runoff, according to the ballots processed, and it's more than 96%, as far as I know <...> As a presidential candidate, I am very pleased to head to the second round with Alan Eduardovich Gagloyev."

The incumbent president also thanked South Ossetians for participating in the election.

On Sunday, South Ossetia held presidential elections. The voting was recognized valid, with the voter turnout standing at 82.07%

Incumbent President Anatoly Bibilov, deputy speaker of parliament Alexander Pliyev, leader of the Nykhas political party Alan Gagloyev, lawmaker Garri Muldarov, and former lawmaker Dmitry Tasoyev were vying for the presidential office.

The winning candidate is to score more than half of votes. Otherwise, the runoff election is organized in a span of two weeks. Two candidates with the highest number of votes make it to the second round of voting. The winner is the one who has a simple majority of votes. The runoff polling is recognized valid if 30% of eligible voters take part.
