Apple plans to radically change interface of iPhone, iPad, Mac — Bloomberg

In particular, the company is "aiming to make the operating systems more consistent and simplify navigation"

NEW YORK, March 11. /TASS/. Apple is preparing one of the most dramatic software overhauls in the company’s history, aiming to transform the interface of the iPhone, iPad and Mac for a new generation of users, Bloomberg reported citing sources.

According to the agency, that includes updating the style of icons, menus, apps, windows and system buttons.

In particular, the company is "aiming to make the operating systems more consistent and simplify navigation." As the agency's sources note, "the design is loosely based on the Vision Pro’s software."

As Bloomberg writes, the corporation is betting that a breakthrough new interface can help spur demand after a sluggish stretch.

According to the agency, the changes that are coming as part of iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 were code-named "Luck" and changes as part of macOS 16 were dubbed "Cheer." As the agency’s sources claim, the upcoming changes "will mark the most significant upgrade to the Mac since the Big Sur operating system in 2020." For the iPhone, it will be the biggest revamp since iOS 7 in 2013, the agency says.

Although the upcoming update is aimed at making Apple’s different operating systems look similar and more consistent, the company does not plan to merge the operating systems. The new versions of the software are to be presented at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The updates could help distract from the company’s tumultuous push into artificial intelligence, the agency says.

On March 8, Bloomberg reported citing sources that Apple will not be able to introduce an update to the Siri voice assistant based on AI technologies until the end of 2025. The agency noted that the company's desire to strengthen its position in the AI services market through a large-scale reworking of Siri led to a deterioration in the quality of the product. Against this background, according to the agency's sources, Apple's vice president of software development Craig Federighi expressed concerns that the new features do not function properly. Bloomberg also clarified that the problems with the development of the new version of the voice assistant were caused by haste, since it was originally planned to implement the updates along with the release of the iOS 18.4 operating system in April of this year.
