Kherson region to integrate into Russia’s system of education — regional authorities

"We should reject the Bologna system", Tatiana Kuzmich said

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. The Kherson region plans to integrate into Russia’s education system, preserving the best local educational traditions, Tatiana Kuzmich, chief of the Kherson region education department, told TASS on Thursday.

"We will integrate into Russia’s education system but preserve the best local educational traditions," she said. "Obviously, we should reject the Bologna system and return to the best domestic educational traditions. Schools in the Kherson region will follow this path."

Russian Minister of Education and Science Valery Falkov said on Tuesday that the Bologna Process, when education rests on the bachelor’s-master’s program pattern, "is a thing of the past" and Russia would develop its own system. According to Falkov, the return to the Soviet higher education system which involves specialist training would improve the quality of education.

The Kherson region is under full control of the Russian forces. A military-civilian administration was established in the region in late April.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree simplifying procedures of granting Russian citizenship for residents of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
