Russian climate gets warmer 2.5 times faster than world average — diplomat

Russia has been implementing a set of measures to slow down the climate change

UN, March 30. /TASS/. The pace of warming in Russia is 2.5 times higher than the world average, Russian deputy UN envoy, Dmitry Chumakov, told a UN General Assembly session on climate change.

The diplomat confirmed that Russia has been implementing a set of measures to slow down the climate change, such as introducing low-emission technologies and increasing the efficiency of energy resources.

"At the same time, the territory of Russia gets warmer more than 2.5 times faster than the average warming pace on the global scale," he said. "The consequences, both already detected and predicted, will have a negative impact on environmental and economic systems, as well as on the population of the country."

Chumakov said that due to the extreme importance of the issue, "at present, a national plan is now being drafted to lay the basis for the country’s further development in the conditions of a climate change.".
