The newspaper emphasizes that so far in the world there are about six species of ceratopteris fern

HAIKOU, June 28. /TASS/. Chinese scientists have discovered a new species of fern ceratopteris on southern Hainan, reported the Hainan Daily.

According to the newspaper, a new species was discovered in the Yangshan wetlands in the province's capital Haikou in the northern part of the island. The plant was named "Xing" in honor of a scientist at the Botanical Gardens at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Xing Fuu, who had been researching for a long time on Hainan.

The newspaper emphasizes that so far in the world there are about six species of ceratopteris fern, two of which have been discovered by the Chinese scientists. It is noted that the new species is Hainan endemic, it is already included in the list of biological species of China and in the list of protected Chinese plants.

The fern ceratopteris, which is also known as the pterygoid or horned fern, is common in the southern and eastern parts of China. It is used in the Chinese cuisine (for example, cold appetizers), as well as for medicinal purposes, including in traditional Chinese medicine.
