MOSCOW, June 29. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said trust is the key factor for the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Germany.
He visited the German school at the German embassy in Moscow to meet with participants in the first-ever Russian-German meeting of secondary school students.
The event brought together school students from Bad Salzungen gymnasium, a secondary school in Rzhev and the German school in Moscow. It was part of the project Work for Peace - Reconciliation over Graves, being carried out with support from the Popular Union for Taking Care of Military Cemeteries, the German embassy in Russia and the German-Russian Youth Exchange foundation.
"I believe it is very important for Russian and German school students to discuss the past to move forward. There is one very important thing: we must know the past, but that past should not pull us back," Putin said.
As he answered school students’ questions, he said that "the most important feature of bilateral relations is trust, a climate of trust, which is the basis of our cooperation."
Putin is optimistic about the development of Russian-German relations.
"Your efforts keep them going and ensure they have a good future," Putin said.
