MOSCOW, September 10. /TASS/. Moscow appreciates Khartoum’s efforts to resolve outstanding issues with South Sudan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told his Sudanese counterpart Ibrahim Ghandour on Thursday.
"Today we have a very good opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, which are developing dynamically, and this dynamics should be preserved and developed," Lavrov said. "We will also consider the situation in the region, we would like to hear your assessment of the settlement of a number of inter-Sudanese issues, including the situation in Darfur."
According to Russia’s top diplomat, the Russian side "supports the decisions taken by the African countries, the policy pursued by your leadership aimed at ensuring that these problems are resolved in accordance with the existing agreements."
"We support your government in its efforts to resolve the remaining outstanding issues in the relations between Sudan and South Sudan," Lavrov said. He noted that a meeting of the Sudanese Foreign Minister with his South Sudanese counterpart would be held on Thursday. "Then the three of us will get together to discuss the ways of facilitating the implementation of the decisions that have been taken on the relations between the two countries," he added. "We highly appreciated the consent of your country and South Sudan to accept our invitation to hold such a meeting in the Russian capital."
"We are looking forward to fruitful work throughout the day," the Russian foreign minister said.
