MINSK, December 6. /TASS/. The Russian and Belarusian leaders have approved the concept of security for the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the document gives an overview of the current international situation and outlines what joint measures the two nations will take to address major challenges and threats.
He stressed that expanding defense and security cooperation between the two countries "meets their basic interests." A shared air defense system and a joint regional group of forces are operating within the boundaries of the Union States, he said, adding that the two countries’ law enforcement agencies are in daily contact.
The meeting also yielded a number of other documents, including on combating illegal imports to the Union State and on setting common regulations in the area of consumer rights protection.
The two countries also adopted a resolution on the holding of festivities for the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 (the Eastern Front during WWII where the former Soviet Union fought against Nazi Germany - TASS) and a range of other documents aimed at further integration within the Union State.
