Russian diplomat calls for end to fighting in Sudan at meeting with country's envoy

The Russian side reaffirmed its principled position on the need for "an immediate cessation to the hostilities and the establishment of a broad national dialogue to ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of friendly Sudan"

MOSCOW, January 11. /TASS/. Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov at a meeting with Sudan's Ambassador to Moscow Mohammed Sirraj stressed the need to put an immediate end to the military and political crisis in the republic, the Russian ministry said in a statement.

"The conversation involved an in-depth exchange of views on the ongoing political and military crisis in Sudan. Meanwhile, the Russian side reaffirmed its principled position on the need for an immediate cessation to the hostilities and the establishment of a broad national dialogue to ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of friendly Sudan," the Foreign Ministry pointed out.

The ministry said that the meeting also addressed some topical issues about the further development of Russian-Sudanese multidimensional ties, including maintaining an active political dialogue and building up cooperation in the trade, economics and humanitarian areas.
