Kremlin spokesman sees large number of Russian presidential hopefuls as natural

Dmitry Peskov stressed that some of the political ambitions are achievable and some aren’t

MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. It’s only natural that a large number of people have been nominated as candidates for Russia’s upcoming presidential election, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Earlier, Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said in an interview with TASS that over 30 people had been nominated as presidential candidates.

"This is an election campaign and it’s natural that people are declaring their political ambitions. Some of them are achievable and some aren’t; some people are capable of taking part in the race. Such a right is enshrined in the Constitution along with the conditions for being nominated. People are acting based on it," Peskov said.

The upper house Federation Council formally designated March 17, 2024 as the date of the presidential election. In turn, the Russian Central Election Commission decided that citizens would be able to cast their ballots during a three-day voting period on March 15-17, making this Russia’s first three-day presidential election.
