MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Some Western search engines are biased against Russia, as they ignore and even cancel the country’s culture, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an AI conference.
"I think you are well aware that some, let’s say, Western-designed search engines, as well as certain generative models, often operate in a rather selective and biased manner. They don’t take Russian culture into account, and sometimes they simply ignore and ‘cancel’ it," the head of state noted.
"Put simply, when a creative task is set before the search engine, it is fulfilled only based on English language data. This is how it plays into the hands of the system’s developers," Putin explained.
That said, the AI algorithm designed by the collective West may simply indicate to search engines that Russia, its culture, science, music and literature do not exist, Putin noted. "This is kind of a cancel campaign in the digital space," he added.
The Russian president pointed out that Western countries might later use their AI algorithms to do the same to other cultures and civilizations, highlighting their own exceptionalism.
In addition, Putin noted that many advanced systems trained on Western data were designed directly for the Western market: "they reflect the part of the Western ethics, behavior rules and policies" that Russia opposes.
