Policy of converting Ukraine into anti-Russia reaches point of no return — Lavrov

The top diplomat pointed out that Moscow had long rid itself of the delusions about the "true intentions of the West"

MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. The policy being pursued by Washington and its European allies of converting Ukraine into an anti-Russian stronghold has reached the point of no return, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the State Duma on Wednesday.

He stressed that an integral part of the West’s current policy was "many years of containment of Russia," including through the expansion of NATO towards Russian borders, as well as "the transformation of fraternal Ukraine into anti-Russia, into a Russophobic military stronghold."

"In recent years, this policy by Washington and the European satellites has reached the point of no return," Lavrov said.

He pointed out that Moscow had long rid itself of the delusions about the "true intentions of the West."

"We remember how they defaulted on the specific political promises given to the Soviet leadership to refrain from expanding the North Atlantic Alliance, and how Germany, France and Poland refused to recognize their own signatures they had put to the agreement between Ukraine’ former president, Viktor Yanukovich and the opposition, thus triggering a bloody government coup in Kiev in February 2014 under outspokenly Nazi, racist slogans," he said.
