EU doubts credibility of Russia’s data on biological labs in Ukraine — spokesman

Brussels is not willing to trust these data, since Russia’s information about biological weapons and alleged secret laboratories in Ukraine and Georgia was previously denied by EU structures

BRUSSELS, March 9. /TASS/. The EU is aware of the data on the US biological laboratories in Ukraine that was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry but does not trust it, EU foreign affairs spokesman Peter Stano said on Wednesday.

"We are aware of the statement of the Russian Defense Ministry regarding the alleged destruction of biological agents in laboratories in Ukraine," Stano noted. "It should be noted that the credibility of information provided by the Kremlin is, in general, very doubtful and low," he said.

Brussels is not willing to trust these data, since Russia’s information about biological weapons and alleged secret laboratories in Ukraine and Georgia was previously denied by EU structures, which were specially set up to search for "Russian disinformation", as well as by various non-governmental organizations.

"We are not aware of any programs in the Ukrainian laboratories that are not in line with the Biological Weapons Convention," the EU foreign affairs spokesman stated.

Earlier, official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov stated that during a special military operation, some evidence pointing to an emergency cleansing of traces of a military biological program, which was implemented in Ukraine and funded by the US, were revealed. According to the official, the employees of Ukrainian biological laboratories reported that some especially dangerous pathogens, namely plague, anthrax, tularemia, cholera and other deadly diseases, were urgently destructed on February 24. Later, a US representative confirmed the presence of biological research facilities in Ukraine.
